NOTICE OF RACE


 

Catboat Rendezvous & Wooden Boat Gathering

February 24-28, 2010

Useppa Island, FL


 

1 RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012 including US Sailing prescriptions.


 

2 ELGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1 Catboats of any configuration are eligible to participate.

2.2 Marshall Sandpiper Catboats will race, as a class, for the "World's" championship.

2.3 Boats competing in the Sandpiper "World's" must carry a skipper and at least one crew member.

2.4 Other catboats will race together in a second start, unless there are enough of one class to constitute a separate, additional, class.

2.5 Every effort will be made to accommodate the catboats which participate so that the racing for them is fun and competitive.

 

3 ENTRY

3.1 Entry is to be made by filling out the registration form, and returning it, with the appropriate entry fee, to: MICHAEL ALBERT

4 FEES

4.1 The entry fee is $85.00 for each participating person (skipper, crew, observer, etc.).


 

5 SCHEDULE (racing and social events)

1730 Opening cocktail party (CASH BAR) and Skipper's Meeting

Tarpon Bar (reception area of Useppa Island Club)

Skippers' Meeting will be conducted at 1830

 

Thursday, February 25

0930 Warning signal for first race of the day - racing will be done on the beach (east) side of Useppa Island, off the beach

1200 Lunch on the beach

1330 Warning signal for continued racing

1500 Evening free - no scheduled event


 

Friday, February 26

0930 Game Day on the Beach - a racing "rain date" if necessary

Events for the day will be announced at the Wednesday evening opening reception, and adjusted as necessary

1200 Lunch on the beach

1330 Dock Walk to view wooden boats

More games to follow lunch and Dock Walk


 

1800 Cocktail party (CASH BAR)

1830 BBQ Dinner in the Tarpon Bar until . . .


 

Saturday, February 27

0930 Warning signal for first race of the day

1200 Lunch on the beach

1330 Afternoon racing only if other scheduled racing was postponed

1600 Cocktail Party and Awards Banquet at the Collier Inn until . . .


 

Sunday, February 28

0930 "Rain date" for racing if no racing completed the first three days


 

6 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

6.1 Sailing Instructions will be available at the Skippers' Meeting Wednesday evening.


 

7 COURSES

7.1 Courses will be windward/leeward, unless wind conditions require a triangle.

7.2 Courses other than windward/leeward will be indicated verbally from the Committee Boat serving as the windward starting line mark.


 

8 PENALTY SYSTEM

8.1 Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.


 

9 SCORING

9.1 When fewer than five races have been completed, a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores.

9.2 When five to nine races have been completed, a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

9.3 When ten or more races have been completed, a boat's series score will be the total of her rrace scores excluding her two worst scores


 

10 RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

10.1 The Race Committee will communicate with itself and competitors on VHF Channel 66.

10.2 Competitors are encouraged to carry operating VHF radios in order to hear communication to the fleet

10.3 Lacking VHF radio capability, competitors are obligated to check in with the Committee Boat at the starting line to insure that they have the latest communication from the Committee.


 

11 PRIZES

11.1 The winner of the Sandpiper Catboat series ( the "World's") will have the boat and skipper names engraved on the rudder memorial trophy displayed permanently in the Collier Inn's Bar.

11.2 There will be "take home" prizes for the Sandpiper series and any other racing group.
